Basketball wait listed for Pacific Games

Reports reaching the Solomon Islands Basketball Federation has indicated that the National Olympic Committee has placed basketball on the waiting list for participation at the Pacific Games in New Caledonia in 2011.  "Basketball's participation at the Pacific Games will be decided on if the Federation can meet certain criterias set out by NOCSI by August 27 2010."

The Solomon Islands Basketball Federation has recently undergone a change in leadership.  The election of Don Boykin has seen the federation move quickly in restoring a cordial working relationship with the regional governing body in basketball, FIBA Oceania.  "SIBF also paid its current affiliation fees to NOCSI and we are committed to meeting all other obligations." said a spokesperson from The Team.

The Team is the brainchild of new president Don Boykin.  "The Team concept is relatively new in sports administration in the Solomon Islands but we have a motto 'Together everyone achieves more'" said SIBF President Don Boykin in explaining the concept.  "There is nothing revolutionary about the concept as it has been applied in other parts of the world but in the Solomon Islands, basketball is taking the lead in getting everyone to participate in the decision making process of the Federation."  The core elements of the Team is made up of young people within the basketball fraternity who are enthusiastic and very skilled.

"We will be discussing this decision by NOCSI.  We are mindful of the importance of participating in regional tournaments but this executive also believes that the long term sustainability of basketball also lies in correcting important priority areas at home."
