Former National Coach to wed at Lela

The idyllic charms of Lela Beach will add an exquisite taste of the tropics as former National Head Coach of the Solomon Islands National Basketball Squad, Ryan Burns, ties the knot with long time girlfriend Jina Ramoteo. Ryan Burns first arrived in the Solomon Islands as a FIBA Oceanian Australian Youth Ambassador to the Solomon Islands Basketball Federation.

Ryan Burns was instrumental in preparing the SI National Basketball Squads to the Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa. As National Head Coach Ryan Burns also led the teams to a tour of Australia prior to the games. After the games Ryan continued to play an active role in basketball in the Solomon Islands and eventually helped SIBF to convene an extraordinary executive meeting which saw the election of current president Don Boykin.

He was appointed Oceania Zone Development Officer in April of 2009 after assisting the D. Fenders Basketball Club and the Telekom Men's Basketball Club stage the successful Our Telekom Easter Basketball Challenge 2009. Ryan was Games Commissioner and in this role he ensured that the tournament was run according to the rules and regulation set by the organizing committee.

Since his appointment Ryan has been traveling throughout the Pacific to assist island federations to continue spreading the great game of basketball. His most recent trip prior to coming back to the Solomon Islands was to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

The Solomon Islands Basketball Federation is pleased to hear of his wedding and offers its best wishes to the couple. The SIBF acknowledge that it has been a pleasure working with Ryan and his enthusiasm for basketball has helped to revive interest in the sport in the Solomon Islands.

The wedding is scheduled for April 2010
