The All Stars selected by the Solomon Islands Basketball Federation have decided to dedicate the first game of the All Star series to the Pink Ribbon Day.
Vice President of SIBF, Eric Tawaniwai commented that, "the cause is a great one. We hope it will raise awareness for the organizers of Pink Ribbon Day as well as for the sports of basketball. We are talking to the organizers of the Pink Ribbon to provide ribbons and our All Stars will wear them in the first game on Sunday 1st November."
Pink Ribbon Day is celebrated annually on the 31st of October. "Our program will be held a day later but by using the ribbons on that day, we hope fans and players who come to the Multipurpose Hall will notice the ribbons and naturally ask questions. In asking those questions we hope that the players can provide some basic information on what the Pink Ribbon Day stands for and how important it is."
The organizers of the All Star Tournament will also highlight basic facts about the day during their in house entertainment.
Game 1 of the All Star Tournament will begin on Sunday 1st. "Game 2 will be on the 8th and the grand finale will be on the 15th of November 2009. If the All Stars are equal on 1 game a piece after game 2 then it will be a very exciting grand finale on the 15th."
Vice President Tawaniwai is urging all basketball fans and the general public to come to the games. Ticket prices are set at $10 for adults, $5 for students and $2 for children under 12. "This is basketball at its very best. Rarely do we get to see the best players in the league play against each other. Its great entertainment, come and support basketball."
