Wood race car event

AN American friend residing in the Solomon Islands since January 1993, who is also the D-Fender’s basketball coach, initiated a programme called the ‘Wood Race Car Event.’

The race car event has occurred five times with the most recent in September 2009 at Woodford International School with female and male students as designer-builders of the race cars and their parents.

At this juncture cars are the focus but next year will see model aeroplanes added to the event.

An invitation is extended to those individuals (female and male) and schools interested in participating in the next ‘Wood Race Car Event’ to attend a meeting on 11 October 2009 in the large conference room at the Multipurpose Hall from 1:30 PM to 2:30pm.

The purpose for the meeting is to clarify the design specifications and the prize and awards for the fastest car, colour scheme, design and the modification required to make the fast car into the slowest car to cross the finish line.

The meeting is only for individuals and school representatives who want information about designing and building the model cars with dimensions of 18cm length x 5 cm high x 7.5cm wide.

Individuals whose names are on the list for attending the recent International Peace Day (21st September) event will receive a free timber block.

In addition to carving the car’s body, the wheels must come from the same block of timber but the axels may be made from any material.

Solomon Islanders will enjoy participating in this exciting event that features four cars built either by you, a friend, or your parents simultaneously racing down a 25-metre track to the finish line.

Prizes will be for first through fourth place winners with the exception of the slowest car having only one winner.
